When I hear the word jump, the first thing that comes to mind is exercise. I think that's because I try to find a way to incorporate exercise into as much as possible these days! Now that I have reached my goal weight, fitness is my #1 focus. Since I have recently been diagnosed with myositis in my hip, I am constantly trying to think of ways to exercise that are low impact on my legs and hips.
I have stopped running due to the pain it caused me, but I have found that I can do a variation of running by jogging in place on my sons trampoline. Yes, I know that I look like a total dork jogging in place on a child size trampoline with netting all around it in my backyard. I am sure that my neighbors think that I have totally lost my mind! Though I know it may not sound like much of a workout, it's better than sitting on the couch.
I got the idea to try this after doing a little research on the benefits of "Rebounding" which is exercise done on a mini-trampoline. Rebounding is good exercise for people of all ages, and great for people with medical conditions that keep them from doing more strenuous exercises. It is good for the lymph system because rebounding is said to increase lymph flow by 15 to 30 percent. It can also strengthen your heart and improve your circulation. It also helps to relieve stress, which is a huge plus for me!
I hope to be able to get an actual "Rebounder" trampoline very soon so that I can do this exercise indoors, and give my son his trampoline back! It's hard to explain to a 4 year old why he can't jump on his trampoline because it's Mommy's turn!
