MUDWORKS by Mary Ann F. Kohl { Review & Giveaway } CLOSED

THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED AND A WINNER HAS BEEN CHOSEN. THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED!
MaryAnn F. Kohl is an art educator and the author of numerous art activity books, including Preschool Art, Math Arts, and Cooking Art.

Mary Ann kindly sent one of her books, Mudworks to me for review.

Mudworks is a book about Creative Clay, Dough and Modeling Experiences. It is bilingual, with both English and Spanish on facing pages. Mudworks features 50 of the most delightfully messy mud activities!
"Preschoolers, art teachers, adventurous parents and most anyone who likes to play in mud, playdough, papier-mâché and similar media will be ecstatic over Kohl's book." -American Library Association Booklist.

An example of just one of the fun Mudworks recipes is listed below:

Funclay

MATERIALS
water colors, tempera paints, wax paper
1 cup (250ml) salt
1/2 cup (125ml) cornstarch
1 cup (250ml) boiling water
pan
wet cloth

PROCESS
1. mix all ingredients in a pan
2. boil to a soft ball stage
3. knead on wax paper until dough-like
4. wrap in wet cloth to keep for a few days
5. by holding a lump of clay in hands, pull out the clay to make legs or arms and head and tail
6. let animals dry and then paint

VARIATIONS
make free-form designs
make ornaments for holidays or birthdays

My 2 year old, Cooper and I made “Frosting Dough” which is so easy and fun! All we needed was a can of prepared frosting, powdered sugar, peanut butter, and our imaginations! We had so much fun!! We made all kinds of animal, food and letter shapes with our dough. I can't wait to try another fun Mudworks project!

Now a little about the author:

She has been writing and publishing books for Bright Ring Publishing, Inc. since 1985 and also writing for Gryphon House, Inc. Mary Ann works as an educational consultant and gives presentations around the world on children's art and publishing. In adition, she enjoys writing for Parenting magazine, consulting for Fisher-Price, and writing short stories for Chicken Soup for the Soul book series.
